ALPA-PAC’s Role in the 2010 Election Cycle

The Air Line Pilots Association Political Action Committee (ALPA-PAC) disbursed roughly $1.5 million dollars to federal candidates and coordinated campaigns in the 2010 election cycle.

Combined ALPA-PAC Contributions to House and Senate Candidates:

ALPA-PAC contributed just over $1.4 million to 279 federal candidates (253 House and 26 Senate). Of those 279 candidates, 214 won (197 House and 17 Senate, meaning that 77 percent of all federal candidates who received an ALPA-PAC contribution were successful on Election Day.

ALPA-PAC contributions to Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives:

Of the 253 House candidates who received contributions from ALPA-PAC, 197 won for an overall positive performance rate of 78 percent.

ALPA-PAC contributed over $1.25 million to 253 House candidates in the 2010 election cycle; $993,750 — 79 percent of all monies contributed to House candidates — was contributed to the 197 winning candidates.

ALPA-PAC contributions to Candidates for the U.S. Senate:

Of the 26 Senate candidates who received contributions from ALPA-PAC, 17 candidates won for an overall positive performance rate of 65 percent.

$149,000 was contributed collectively to 26 Senate candidates; $116,500 to the 17 winners and $32,500 to the 9 defeated candidates.

The 17 winning Senate candidates who received ALPA-PAC support are: Michael Bennet, Blumenthal, Boxer, Coons, Grassley, Inouye, Isakson, Leahy, Manchin, Mikulski, Moran, Murkowski, Murray, Reid, Schumer, Shelby, and Vitter.

The 9 losing Senate candidates who received ALPA-PAC support are: Robert Bennett, Carnahan, Ellsworth, Feingold, Fisher, Giannoulias, Hodes, Meek, and Sestak.

State Coordinated Campaigns:

ALPA-PAC contributed to 10 Democratic coordinated campaigns for a total of $50,000: Hawaii, Illinois, Los Angeles County, CA, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and West Virginia.

Republican Candidates:

ALPA-PAC contributed $195,000 to 40 Republican candidates (33 House and 7 Senate). That means that 14 percent of all ALPA-PAC-supported candidates in the 2010 election cycle were Republicans.

33 of the 33 House Republicans and 6 of the 7 Senate Republicans who ALPA-PAC supported won their races.
